Milling problems and possible solutions
Excessive vibration during milling
1. Poor clamping
Possible solutions.
Evaluate cutting force and support direction or improve clamping.
The cutting force is reduced by reducing the cutting depth.
The milling cutter with sparse teeth and different pitch can obtain more active cutting effect.
Select the l-groove with small tool tip fillet radius and small parallel face.
Select uncoated or thinly coated blades with fine grains
2. The workpiece is not firm
The square shoulder milling cutter with positive rake groove (90 degree main deflection angle) is considered.
Select the blade with L groove
Reduce axial cutting force – use low cutting depth, small tool tip fillet radius and small parallel surface.
Select sparse tooth milling cutter with different tooth pitch.
3. Large overhanging tool is used
As small as possible.
Use sparse milling cutter with different pitch.
Balance radial and axial cutting forces – use 45 degree main deflection angle, large nose fillet radius or carbide tool with round blade.
Increase feed rate per tooth
Use light cutting blade groove-l / M
4. Milling square shoulder with unstable spindle
Choose the smallest carbide tool diameter possible
Select carbide tool and blade with positive rake angle
Try reverse milling
Check the spindle deviation to determine whether the machine can bear it
5. The feeding of worktable is irregular
Try reverse milling
Tighten the machine feed.
